Late, even budburst — the cold hung on at 300–550 m and kept the vines asleep an extra week. I don't mind; slow starts tend to finish right.

Winemaker
A desert valley moderated by the lake, ripening Bordeaux reds at the 49th parallel. The estate behind this lot is named only to enrolled members; until then you're backing the region, the style, and a verified track record — not a label.
Oliver, British Columbia was a farming town long before it was a wine name. The family sold fruit to bigger houses for years before keeping it back and bottling under our own label.
“Late budburst this year — semi-arid continental, hot days and cold nights by a deep glacial lake kept the vines asleep an extra week. I don't mind. Fruit that comes in slow tends to come in right.”
— the winemaker, updated this month
Old methods, watched closely. Glacial and lacustrine sand, silt, and gravel over granite. I trust the fruit and I trust the place — the rest is restraint.

Finished pruning the home block today. My hands are reminding me how many cuts that is. The oldest vines on glacial and lacustrine sand, silt, and gravel over granite get pruned last, by me, every year.

Reservoir check came back lower than I'd like. We'll dry-farm the old vines and water only the young ones. Less wine, but the right wine.
