Winemaker

The grower here farms Viognier on thin caliche and limestone over fractured granite of the llano uplift in Texas Hill Country. Their name is withheld on the public listing and shared with the Crew on enrollment β€” what you can judge now is the place, the live data feed, and the samples across the season.

The history.

My family didn't set out to make fine wine; they set out to use the land they had. Texas Hill Country at 400–600 m, thin caliche and limestone over fractured granite of the llano uplift, and a cellar dug into the hill.

What this vintage is showing so far.

β€œQuiet season so far, which is the kind I like. No frost worth the name, even rain through spring. The old blocks broke bud first, the way they always do.”

β€” the winemaker, updated this month

Philosophy.

My rule is simple: don't make a decision the vineyard already made for me. Thin caliche and limestone over fractured granite of the Llano Uplift sets the acid and the tannin; I keep the cellar clean and the timing honest.

First green on the Viognier block this morning, a touch ahead of last year. Warm continental with hot days, cooler limestone-plateau nights, and humid spells. If a cold night lands we'll be out before dawn.

Pruning finished β€” weeks of work, every cut by hand. The old vines on thin caliche and limestone over fractured granite of the llano uplift still look sharp going into the season.
