Winemaker

A working estate in Coonawarra, Australia β€” Cabernet Sauvignon farmed on iconic terra rossa over free-draining limestone, cool maritime, long even ripening season. In the Crew model the winemaker stays anonymous until you enroll; until then the platform stands behind the data, the track record, and the samples. You meet them, and see the name, when you commit.

The history.

My family didn't set out to make fine wine; they set out to use the land they had. Coonawarra at 55–65 m, iconic terra rossa over free-draining limestone, and a cellar dug into the hill.

What this vintage is showing so far.

β€œWe had a scare with a late cold snap but the buds held. Now it's down to the summer β€” I want a long, slow ripening, not a sprint to sugar.”

β€” the winemaker, updated this month

Philosophy.

My rule is simple: don't make a decision the vineyard already made for me. Iconic terra rossa over free-draining limestone sets the acid and the tannin; I keep the cellar clean and the timing honest.

Walked every row this week. Bud break is even across the blocks β€” the Cabernet Sauvignon on iconic terra rossa over free-draining limestone always wakes first. No frost in the forecast, which is the news I wanted.

Cover crop turned in between the rows. The bees are already on the mustard. Coonawarra, South Australia smells like spring.

Spent the morning re-tying canes the wind pulled loose. Unglamorous, but it's the difference between a tidy canopy and a mess in July.
