Late, even budburst — the cold hung on at 0–40 m and kept the vines asleep an extra week. I don't mind; slow starts tend to finish right.

Winemaker
Made on a small Médoc estate — Merlot on deep gravel croupes over clay and limestone. Anonymous by design: the trade name is revealed on commitment, after the samples and the data have done the talking.
These vines sit on deep gravel croupes over clay and limestone at 0–40 m. The estate has farmed Pauillac, Médoc for generations; we kept the old blocks and rebuilt the cellar around gravity.
“Even budburst across the blocks. I'm not relaxed yet, but the season is shaping up honestly.”
— the winemaker, updated this month
Gravel banks the Cabernet roots love, a stone's throw from the tides. I pick on flavor, not numbers, and I'd rather make less and mean it.

Finished pruning the home block today. My hands are reminding me how many cuts that is. The oldest vines on deep gravel croupes over clay and limestone get pruned last, by me, every year.

Reservoir check came back lower than I'd like. We'll dry-farm the old vines and water only the young ones. Less wine, but the right wine.
